According to a statement from the Pakistani military, a soldier gave his life on Monday in the North Waziristan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa while engaging in a gun battle with terrorists.
Pakistani forces successfully engaged the terrorists’ position and captured an injured terrorist, according to Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
During the heated gunfight with the terrorists, a 41-year-old man from the Mardan district named Havildar Muhammad Zahir reportedly embraced martyrdom after fighting gallantly.
Those in charge of public relations at ISPR have stated that the goal of the sanitation operation is to remove any potential terrorists from the area.
Such sacrifices by our courageous soldiers only serve to fortify the commitment of the Security Forces of Pakistan in their mission to eradicate terrorism, the statement added.
In 2023, there were 560 reported acts of terrorism in the tribal territories of K-P, according to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
According to statistics gathered from the CTD, the number of attacks on security personnel in 2023 was 209, up from 124 in 2022. The number of attacks on police was 243, up from 118 in 2022. Terrorist attacks claimed the lives of 167 policemen and officers in 2023, up from 83 in 2022, and 101 soldiers and officers last year, up from 96 the year before.
