Between 90 and 100 persons were murdered in an Israeli strike on a Gaza school on Saturday, according to the civil defense service for the region. Hamas condemned this as a “dangerous escalation”.
“The massacre at Al-Tabieen School in the Daraj neighbourhood in central Gaza City is a horrific crime that constitutes a dangerous escalation,” Hamas stated in a statement.
The official Palestinian news agency reported on Saturday that an Israeli strike on a Gaza school housing displaced persons resulted in over 100 Palestinian deaths and numerous injuries. Meanwhile, the Israeli army claimed to have targeted a Hamas command center.
The Gaza government media office, which is managed by Hamas, released a statement saying, “The Israeli strikes targeted the displaced people while performing Fajr (dawn) prayers, a matter led to a rapid increase in the number of casualties.”
The Israeli army said in a statement that the “command and control center served as a hideout for Hamas terrorists and commanders” due to an air force strike.
“The IAF precisely struck Hamas terrorists operating within a Hamas command and control center embedded in the Al-Taba’een school and located adjacent to a mosque in Daraj Tuffah, which serves as a shelter for the residents of Gaza City.”
