KARACHI:
The Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi has organized a sit-in outside the Governor’s House, requesting that agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) be terminated, K-Electric’s license be revoked, the tax system be changed, and inflation be reduced.
From Khizra Masjid to the Governor’s House, thousands of residents joined protesters from all over the city.
They yelled slogans and carried placards in opposition to the government, IPPs, and those who contributed to rising inflation.
JI Karachi Ameer Munem Zafar expressed that this demonstration is a continuation of the Rawalpindi dissent and will go on until all requests are met. He said that the government had misled the public about IPP capacity charges, pointing out that some IPPs are getting a lot of money for little electricity production.
Additionally, Zafar demanded a forensic audit of IPPs and KE.
He promised that JI’s protest would continue until citizens received their due rights and accused the ruling parties of conspiring with KE to exploit resources.
