JIT is going to record statements from Arshad’s mother and wife.
During the course of the inquiry, the police say they will get in touch with everyone who could be relevant.
ISLAMABAD—The special Joint Investigation Team that was established at the instruction of the Supreme Court to probe the slaying of journalist Arshad Sharif has made the decision to record the statements of both his mother and his wife.
The office of the DIG headquarters in Islamabad played host to the first meeting of the special Joint Investigation Team (JIT) investigating the murder of journalist Arshad.
According to the officials of the police department, it was decided during the meeting that the JIT will make its TORs, and the statement of the deceased Arshad Sharif’s mother and widow will be recorded first in the investigation. This information was provided by the officials of the police department.
In accordance with the statements made by the police, all pertinent individuals will be contacted on the inquiry, and members of the JIT will also travel to Kenya, a trip for which preparations for travel and document gathering have already begun.
In response to a directive from the chief justice, a special joint investigative committee was established with the mandate to investigate the Arshad Sharif murder case and produce a report within fourteen days.
On December 7, a five-member bigger bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial, heard Arshad Sharif’s notice that the court should act on its own initiative. A report on the findings of an investigation had been provided by the Ministry of the Interior.
When the court issued its order to assemble a special JIT, it specified that members of the ISI, police, the Intelligence Bureau, and the Federal Investigation Agency should be included.
