Saturday, the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected prominent PTI leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s petition against the returning officer’s earlier rejection of his documents.

But his wife Qaisara Elahi was allowed to run for the general election by the court.

There have been accusations of falsifying information in the nomination papers, according to Elahi’s lawyer Shahzad Shoukat. “The accusations include not mentioning a license for seven weapons and the absence of a mention of a special account in the nomination papers.”

“Everything is stated in the papers, according to the law,” the lawyer underlined, adding that someone tried to steal the nomination papers. Because of his senior political status, Pervez Elahi deserves to run for office.

“They detained their designated agent as he attempted to present the paperwork for the nomination,” the attorney stated in response to Justice Najafi’s questions.

Is it the duty of the ECP to deliver instructions in a timely manner?” Justice Najafi said. Is the ECP aware of any complaints you’ve filed?

“We approached the court, and after court orders, we were allowed to go to the RO office.”

The court then made its decision public and denied Elahi’s request for a new trial.

Previous to this, the LHC had issued a directive to the Gujranwala Regional Police Officer (RPO) and the Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin District Police Officers (DPOs) to follow all legal procedures to the letter, stressing that they should not prevent Qaisara Elahi from presenting her nomination papers for the 2019 general elections to the appropriate officials.

Qaisara asserted that she, Elahi, and the Moonis would run in the general election that is set to take place on February 8.

They designated authorised individuals to act as their representatives while submitting nomination papers to the returning officers of their respective seats. But according to Qaisara Elahi, the Punjab police were obstructing and even kidnapping these approved persons.
