Malik Ahmed Khan, Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, said that a “ethics committee” would be created to deal with ministers’ use of bad language and slurs during assembly sessions.
MALIK AHMED, SPEAKER OF THE PUNJAB ASSEMBLY, CRACKS DOWN ON BAD WORDS AND CREATES A “ETHICS COMMITTEE.”
In response to concerns about past actions, the Speaker said, “Today, I am forming a new ethics committee to fix the bad behavior that harmed proceedings under the previous administration.”
“This committee will investigate instances where derogatory language has been used and will propose appropriate sanctions based on its findings,” he said. “We are here to uphold the constitutional integrity of this House, not to witness disorder.”
The Speaker was upset that the manners were getting worse and said, “What started as political dissent has turned into personal attacks on people’s lifestyles.” When people in the government started chanting inappropriate things, people from both the opposition and the ruling party worked together to make a moral code that made it clear that any improper behavior was not allowed.
“The Ethics Committee should comprise representatives from all parliamentary factions,” he told us. “I made every effort to maintain order in the House, and in the absence of compliance, I have taken the step to form this committee.”
Malik Ahmed Khan said again that the Assembly follows the rules and norms of parliament and emphasized that it is a place for positive debate and legislation.
