Tuesday, both Pakistan and China said they were determined to speed up all of the projects in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). These projects include improving ML-I, the Gwadar Port, and the Karakorum Highway.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar and Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) Liu Jianchao met and talked about how they could work together and improve their relationship.
The vice prime minister is in China for four days, where he will mostly co-chair the 5th Pakistan-China Foreign Ministers’ Strategic Dialogue with Wang Yi, the Chinese foreign minister.
During their meeting, the two leaders also reaffirmed how important it was for Pakistan and China to have an all-weather strategic cooperative relationship and work together even more to benefit both countries.
The political groups of Pakistan and China’s Communist Party have been working together and exchanging ideas for a long time.
Senator Dar told China again that Pakistan stands by it when it comes to the most important problems, and Minister Liu said that China backs Pakistan’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and high-quality socioeconomic development.
The deputy prime minister and foreign minister both said they were sorry and shocked that Chinese people had died in the horrible Shangla attack. He made it clear again that Pakistan is determined to fight all kinds of terrorism and bring those responsible for the Shangla attack to justice.
He talked about the steps Pakistan has taken to make sure that Chinese projects, people working on them, and institutions in Pakistan are safer. Liu Jianchao was asked by Senator Dar to come to Pakistan and help run the next meeting of the CPEC Joint Consultative Mechanism of Political Parties.
The foreign minister, meanwhile, talked about the government’s broad reform plan to boost economic growth and development by raising taxes, pushing for austerity, and attracting foreign investment.
He said that the government was still committed to making things easier for Pakistanis living outside of Pakistan and using their ideas and skills to help the country’s growth.
