Among the millions of spectators who watched Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem win gold in the javelin throw at the Olympics in Paris was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Nadeem made history during the widely reported event by throwing a record-breaking 92.97 meters, earning Pakistan its first Olympic gold in forty years.
Neeraj Chopra of India won silver, and Grenada’s Anderson Peters took home the bronze.
Indian media sources claim that Prime Minister Modi personally contacted Chopra at around one in the morning to congratulate him on winning the silver medal.
“Neeraj, many congratulations. The country is once again proud of you. According to reports, PM Modi informed Chopra on the call, “Millions were watching you with hope even at 1am.”
