On Tuesday, Dr. Mahrang Baloch, leader of the Baloch Yekjehti Committee (BYC), ended the month-long sit-in outside Islamabad’s National Press Club (NPC) protesting extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances.
The current phase of the protest has come to an end, and Baloch has announced that the next phase would focus on amplifying the BYC movement’s voice through various online platforms.
On January 27, she also announced a meeting in Quetta to address the issue of Baloch persons going missing.
For more than a month, beginning on December 22, protesters set up camp in front of the press club in the nation’s capital, where they were planning a sit-in.
Following the NPC’s letter to the Islamabad police demanding the dismantling of the protest camp, Mahrang made the announcement.
Nevertheless, in the aftermath of widespread and critical criticism, notably from journalists, the NPC decided to remove the letter.
In its application to SHO Kohsar Shafqat Faiz, the NPC voiced its displeasure with the traffic and other problems that its members and guests were experiencing as a result of the continuing protest.
