Pakistan wants the Political Declaration that was made at the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Summit last September to be put into action. In it, world leaders reaffirmed their promise to end poverty and hunger, fight inequality, and build peaceful societies that include everyone and leave no one behind.
He said at the UN, “These promises and commitments on development should be backed by the Security Council so that they become legally binding.”
The Pakistani envoy stressed that these promises must be kept in order to increase grant and concessional development funding, re-direct unused special drawing rights (SDRs), meet climate pledges, and give urgent debt relief, among other things.
