The problem of climate change intensifies pre-existing vulnerabilities, with a particular focus on women and other gender minorities in different geographic and socioeconomic contexts. According to UN statistics, women make up 80% of those who have been displaced due to climate change.

Young researchers, educators, activists, and tech innovators were invited to the conference, which was hosted under the varsity’s Social Development and Policy programme, to discuss the connections between gender, peacebuilding, and climate change.

The conference, which included skill-building, panel discussions, interactive talks, and artistic workshops, promoted interdisciplinary discourse on gender and climate action while highlighting the significance of bolstering communities to address the complex issues raised by climate change.

The United States Institute of Peace granted research funding to university lecturer Dr. Shama Dossa, which led to the meeting.
