Traveling to London, Islamabad, or Muzaffarabad:
Borough Cemetery, Powder Mill Lane, Whitton, London, was the site of Saturday’s funeral for Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl, a renowned Kashmiri leader in the fight for the right to self-determination in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

After a short illness, veteran leader Shawl passed away on Friday in London. The man was 77 years old. Among Professor Shawl’s many illnesses was kidney failure, which ultimately led to his tragic death. Shawl was highly regarded as a spokesperson for the people of IIOJK on a global scale.

The people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir are deeply shocked by the sudden death of Professor Shawl, according to Speaker of the AJK legislature Chaudhry Latif Akbar. Shawl’s dedication to the liberation movement in Kashmir was extraordinary.

Just one day before Professor Shawl passed away in a London hospital, Akbar had met with him, praising him as the true spokesman for the helpless Jammu and Kashmiris. His love and dedication to the fight for Kashmir were incredible even while he was sick.

The president of the Tehreek-e-Kashmir (TeK) in the United Kingdom, Fahim Kayani, has stated that Professor Shawl represents the people of IIOJK’s right to self-determination on a global scale.

Many people felt what he said; they saw Professor Shawl for more than a political figure; they saw him as a thinker who was fiercely dedicated to freedom and justice.

In addition to the following notable figures: Dr. Faisal Aziz Ahmed, who is the Deputy High Commissioner of Pakistan in the UK, Raja Fahim Kayani, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir UK, Muhammad Ghalib, President of Tehreek-e-Kashmir Europe, Barrister Abdul Majeed Trumboo, Lord Qurban Hussain, Nazir Ahmed Qureshi, Dr. Riaz Ahmed, a former minister of AJK, Amjad Abbasi, Mayor of Slough, Afzaal Kayani, Mayor of Hunslow, Raja Aslam Khan, Former Deputy Leader of Luton, Riaz Butt, Tahir Malik, and Waheed Akbar, among others.

Attended the funeral prayers were Altaf Khan, Liaqat Ali, Professor Zafar Khan of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Mufti Khalid Mehmood of Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam UK, Ch Muhammad Sharif of TeK UK, Mohaideen Dar, Irshad Malik, Raja Ayub, Raja Basharat Khan, Ghulam Nabi Flahi, Yasir Shawl, Dr Manzoor Shawl, Raja Sikandar Khan of Pak Kashmir, and several others.

Among those who came together in Islamabad to grieve the passing of a genuine visionary and champion for justice in IIOJK were former federal minister Hanif Abbasi, former mayor of Rawalpindi Sardar Naseem Khan, and senior Hurriyat leader Altaf Ahmed Bhat.

“In the memory of Professor Shawl, we remember a fearless advocate for human rights and a beacon for the Kashmir cause,” Muzaffarabad PML-N AJK chapter president Shah Ghulam Qadir remarked, expressing his condolences and reflecting on Professor Shawl’s global effect. The story for justice is shaped by his impact, which transcends borders and time.

Renowned as a spokesperson for the people of IIOJK on a global scale, Professor Shawl made an unforgettable impact on the continuous fight for freedom.

According to Dr. Pir Ali Raza Bukhari, a former member of the AJK assembly, Professor Shawl is a genuine historian. The deceased’s life’s work, advocating for the right to self-determination, was his passion.
