Senior Deputy Convener of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), Mustafa Kamal, said that his party has suggested three changes to the constitution that would give power from the Chief Minister’s House to the people on the streets to save the country.

Kamal spoke at the Council of Newspaper Editors (CPNE)’s “Meet the Editors” event on the topic of “General Elections and Future Strategy.” He said that the MQM-P’s suggested changes were necessary to save the country. He said that these ideas were being sent by the party to the heads of all other parties.

“People who don’t like the slogan of the province should back our changes to the constitution,” he said. “Even though the 18th Amendment was passed, power and money have not been given to the grassroots level.” He said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), which used to rule the provinces, was counting on people in London not voting.

He did say, though, that the MQM-P would win all 22 National Assembly seats from Karachi in the next poll.

Kamal said, “The MQM is fully involved in getting ready for the elections.” “There are three main political parties in the country right now,” the MQM-P leader said. These are the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and the PPP.

At the event, Aminul Haq, a member of the MQM-P Coordination Committee and a former federal minister, said that polls would take place on February 8. He promised that the MQM-P fully supported journalists’ rights and freedom of speech. According to Haq, whenever someone tried to take away the rights of journalists or limit their freedom of speech, the MQM-P, the CPNE, and other media groups fought back and stopped them everywhere, even in parliament.
