During the release of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s election manifesto, which took place on Sunday in Islamabad, the party’s chairman, Barrister Gauhar Ali Khan, stated that they had been denied a level playing field.
Moreover, the chairman of the party expressed his displeasure with the ‘harassment’ of the party’s candidates. “Such tactics are against the law and the Constitution, and are akin to obstructing the people.”
“If every day you obstruct the will of the people, what will and can we predict about February 8,” according to Barrister Gauhar.
In order to guarantee that everyone has the same rights, he made a plea to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). “The equal rights are not just for parties, but also for all candidates.” In addition, he stated that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is the “largest political party in the country,” yet it is not permitted to launch campaigns for the 2018 elections.
“A country can not have two laws.”
Manifesto of the PTI
As Barrister Gauhar revealed the party’s manifesto, he stated that if the PTI were to regain power, they would rewrite the constitution in order to alter the process by which the prime minister is elected through constitutional amendments. It is the intention of the party to have the premier of the country elected directly by the people, and the term of the legislatures will be reduced from five years to four years.
In addition to this, Gauhar pledged to establish a truth and reconciliation commission in order to address the injustices that are experienced by the average person.
In addition to restating the party’s motto of bringing about change, he stated that the new manifesto of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is to create a magnificent future and to eradicate the shortcomings of the past.
“Our manifesto is one nation, one law, equality for all as there cannot be two laws in one country.”
He stated that the PTI is a firm believer in the rule of law, and that the laws of the country, whether they pertain to criminal or civil matters, are “outdated.” Further, Gauhar stated that the party will preserve the fundamental rights of the people by developing a new system for investigations and bringing about changes to the criminal legislation.
The chairman of the party provided additional information regarding the amendments to the constitution, stating that the term of office for senators will be lowered from six years to five years, and that fifty percent of senators will be elected directly by the people.
In addition, the chairman stated that it was essential to eradicate corruption and pledged that the PTI would launch a program that would exercise a more vigilant watch on the matter.
In an effort to strike a compromise between the lofty hopes of the people and the harsh ground realities about the country’s terrible financial difficulties, the PML-N presented a cautiously optimistic economic manifesto the day before. The manifesto outlined targets that were generally attainable without unraveling the economic stability of the country.
A number of the objectives are, for the most part, in agreement with the estimates for the next five years that were provided by the International Monetary Fund in its staff report that was made public this month. On the other hand, the manifesto does not address the current bailout package from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) or the way to deal with the growing public debt.
If the PML-N were to be elected to power, the budget and the current account deficit goals would indicate that they could be considering entering into a program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
In addition, the party broke its pledge to provide free electricity to customers who consume 200 units of electricity on a monthly basis to those customers.
