PTI leader Chaudhry Fawad Hussain stated on Friday that talks with PA opposition leader Hamza Shahbaz were about to start, and that Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi will be forwarding a few candidates for the caretaker setup.

He added, “We hope he (Elahi) gives the names of those who can conduct free and fair elections.

Additionally, he urged that the Punjab Assembly (PA) be dissolved immediately rather than waiting for the 48-hour period to pass.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Chaudhry Fawad Hussain made the demand.

Outside of former prime minister Imran Khan’s Zaman Park mansion in Lahore, Chaudhry gave a press conference. “We encourage the governor to not wait 48 hours and to sign the summary already,” he said.

The comments were made the day after Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, the chief minister of Punjab, officially requested the governor to dissolve the provincial legislature. Elahi had just hours earlier won back the confidence of the majority of PA legislators.

The decision ended weeks of legal fighting, public spectacle, and rumours over whether or not the Punjabi government’s partners, the PTI and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), would dissolve the legislature.

Leaders of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) reaffirmed their party’s support for dissolving the assembly as they made their way to Imran Khan, the party’s chairman, in Lahore.

We spoke with them on the phone, and they have prepared the recommendation to dissolve the KP Assembly, Chaudhry added.

The comments come a day after Punjab CM Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi formally asked the governor to dissolve the provincial legislature. This advice came hours after Elahi regained the confidence of the majority of members in PA.

On the other hand, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, vice chairman of the PTI, urged immediate holding of elections nationwide because they were the only way to address the nation’s ongoing, unreported issues.

In a statement released on Friday by the PTI Central Media Department, Qureshi said that Punjab Assembly had been dissolved on the orders of PTI Chairman Imran Khan. The PTI’s stance is very clear: fast, free, and fair general elections are the only way to resolve the current crisis.

He claimed that the PTI’s position was straightforward: new elections were the only way to address the nation’s issues and provide the finest representation of the wishes of the populace.
