The leaders of the PPP Punjab met on Wednesday to finalize plans to put forward candidates for all provincial and national seats in the province. This was done to make sure that there would be a full list of candidates.
The party also chose to make it easier for people who want to run for office to do so by inviting applications.
The choice was made at a meeting with the party’s Punjab leadership, which was led by Asif Ali Zardari and Faryal Talpur and was to talk about worries about the elections.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Hassan Murtaza, Rana Farooq, and Chaudhry Aslam Gul were some of the important people who attended the meeting in Islamabad.
There were also divisional leaders from PPP Central Punjab at the meetings.
Senior PPP leader Shazia Marri said on Wednesday that the party had accepted the results of the 2013 election, even though they had “reservations,” because they were more concerned with what was best for the country.
When Marri spoke to the media in Lahore, he made fun of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and stressed how important it was to get power through legal means.
In a subtle dig at Nawaz Sharif, the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), the PPP leader asked why there was no talk of elections at the former prime minister’s Minar-e-Pakistan gathering. “No one at the rally talked about the elections.” A lot of people are afraid of elections.
She said that the people of Lahore should be able to freely choose their leader. She also told political opponents to work with the people and support their causes without putting down the PPP’s efforts, stressing the importance of putting the needs of the people first.
Marri had harsh words for the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and said that the party was still dealing with the effects of losing the Sindh elections to the PPP.
Marri defended Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the leader of the PPP, saying that his young leadership was better than the self-serving goals that make it hard for people to make good decisions. She said Bilawal was dedicated to helping many people and making the future bright for the children of the country.
In a letter to the poll Commission of Pakistan (ECP), Marri asked that the poll schedule be released on February 8, which was the date that had been set. She warned that if the polls weren’t held, bad things would happen in Pakistan.
She emphasized that the PPP is against inflation and unemployment, making the party look like the voice of the disadvantaged. It was made clear that they were not fighting against people, but against things like unemployment and inflation.
