KARACHI:
IMRAN RIAZ’s attorney, Advocate Azhar Siddique, stated that anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan was taken into custody at the airport in Lahore early on Wednesday as he was flying to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage.
Siddique said, “He was arrested by unidentified individuals accompanied by law enforcement personnel,” noting that there was a fight during the incident.
The counsel for the anchorperson stated, “Imran Riaz has been granted bail in all the cases registered against him.”
Following this, Siddique recorded a request in the Lahore High Court (LHC) looking for an explanation on the primary data report (FIR) under which Riaz was confined. A bench is currently hearing the petition.
As per the documented request, Riaz was going to leave for Hajj when “a few casually dressed officials from various specialists showed up and captured him without clarification” and afterward “moved him to an undisclosed area”.
It stated, “It is necessary for the respondents to appear before this court and disclose which FIRs have been filed against the applicant, leading to his unlawful and arbitrary arrest” because “no information has been provided regarding the FIR used for the applicant’s arrest on the night of 11.06.2024.”
Riaz’s Tuesday removal from the Exit Control List (ECL) was also mentioned in the petition.
The plea asked the court to accept the petition and give the police, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the Secretary of the Interior, and the Anti-Corruption Establishment instructions to provide information about the FIR under which the anchorperson was taken into custody.
On June 3, Imran Riaz was purportedly halted from loading onto a trip to withdraw for Hajj journey at the Islamabad air terminal. Imran eventually made the decision to take the matter to court.
Recently, Riaz was captured in a defilement case in regards to the Dhrabi Lake contract in Chakwal and later conceded bail by an extraordinary court. However, he was re-arrested in another case involving violence outside the Zaman Park residence of PTI founder Imran Khan.
On Walk 10, an enemy of psychological oppression court allowed him post-capture bail against guarantee bonds worth Rs200,000.
