What powers your creative and design sensibilities?
SHEREZAD RAHIMTOOLA: My creative and design sensibilities are fueled by various sources. Nature, architecture, art, and cultural influences are some of the key inspirations behind my work. I find beauty in organic forms, intricate details, and the harmony of different elements coming together. Additionally, I am also inspired by all the gemstones.

How would you define your design aesthetic?
SR: I would define my design aesthetic as a blend of contemporary elegance with a touch of timeless appeal. I strive to create pieces that are both classic and unique, and incorporate gemstones. My designs often emphasise clean lines, balanced proportions, and a sense of understated luxury.

For you as a designer, is less more, or are you someone who loves going all out and over the top?
SR: As a designer, I appreciate both minimalistic simplicity and extravagant opulence. I believe in the power of restraint, where every element is purposefully chosen and has significance. However, I also enjoy creating statement pieces that push boundaries and make a bold impact. It ultimately depends on the vision and concept behind each design.

Who has thus far been your most favourite person to bejewel and why?
SR: It’s challenging to choose just one favourite person to bejewel, as I have had the privilege of working with numerous incredible individuals. However, if I were to pick one, it would be an inspiring woman who embodies grace, strength, and a unique sense of style. Being able to create jewellery that complements her personality and enhances her beauty would be an absolute delight.

If there is one person who you would love to see one day wear your jewellery, who would it be and why?
SR: If there is one person I would love to see wear my jewellery, it would be a cultural icon or a visionary artist who appreciates the intricacy and artistry of jewellery design. Seeing them adorn my creations would be a testament to the craftsmanship and creativity that goes into each piece.

As a designer 1) What is your inspiration? 2) What is your motivation? 3) What is your comfort zone and why?
SR: As a designer: My inspiration comes from various sources, such as nature, art, and architecture. I find beauty in organic shapes and working around gemstones.
My motivation stems from the desire to create something meaningful and beautiful. I am driven by the joy and satisfaction that comes from translating ideas into tangible forms of self-expression.
My comfort zone lies in the realm of timeless elegance and refined craftsmanship. I find solace in creating designs that balance tradition and innovation, ensuring that they resonate with both contemporary aesthetics and enduring appeal.

Your favourite jewellery designer and/or design house?
SR: It’s difficult to pick just one favourite jewellery designer or design house, as there are many talented artists and brands that I admire. However, I appreciate the works of Bvlgari for their distinctive styles and artistic expressions.

How would you define your design ethos?
SR: My design ethos revolves around the principles of quality, craftsmanship, and individuality. I believe in creating pieces that transcend trends and speak to the unique essence of the wearer. Each design is meticulously crafted with attention to detail, using the finest materials and techniques to ensure exceptional quality and longevity.

What is your favourite metal and favourite stone to work with and why?
SR: I have a fondness for working with yellow gold due to its timeless appeal and versatility and demand. It complements a wide range of gemstones and enhances their natural beauty. As for stones, I find myself drawn to the mesmerising allure of coloured gemstones, particularly emeralds. Their vibrant hues and inherent brilliance allow for endless exploration and the creation of captivating designs.
