On Monday, an Islamabad district and session court said that the case of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi’s illegal marriage can be heard.
Khawar Maneka, the petitioner and Bushra’s ex-husband went to court today. Maneka’s lawyer said that his client knew about the affair. Judge Qudratullah said that Maneka’s statement is there and it doesn’t talk about that act.
In these kinds of cases, the judge also said that there needs to be two witnesses besides the accuser. He or she also asked if there was any medical proof for the same.
He or she responded that there are already two witnesses if Maneka is included, so there is no need for a medical report. But the judge said Maneka couldn’t be both the person who was complaining and a witness in the case.
At that point, he asked the court to send warnings to Imran and Bushra about the case. When Maneka’s lawyer was done with his points, the judge said the case could go to court and sent notices to the respondents.
On December 14, the court called both Imran and Bushra in under Section 496-B orders.
In a recent TV interview, Maneka blamed the leader of the PTI for ruining his marriage. He also gave a statement to Senior Civil Judge Qudratullah in Islamabad East under Section 200 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which allows the accuser to be questioned.
It was the same things he said in the interview and in his charge against the couple that he said in the statement.
He said that Imran and Bushra got married on January 1, 2018, and he sent a copy of the supposed nikkah papers along with his complaint.
Maneka said that their nikkah was “neither legal nor Islamic because it was held without following the iddat period and they both had sexual relations with each other.”
