PESHAWAR: On Thursday, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) ruled that the inclusion of former National Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser’s name on the Exit Control List (ECL) was unlawful and unconstitutional.
On June 23, 2023, Qaiser’s petition was heard for the final time.
The PTI leader’s attorney said that Qaiser was denied permission to travel to Umrah by authorities and that his name was unjustly placed to the ECL.
The attorney went on to say that Qaiser is a prominent politician who was just elected to the National Assembly once more.
The PHC prohibited former PTI MPs from being included in the fourth schedule earlier in January.
Under the Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, a person is listed on the fourth schedule if there is reliable intelligence that he is associated with a banned organization. The individual then faces limitations on their ability to travel, speak, and conduct business.
Former Speaker Asad Qaiser was among the people who were suggested to be placed in the fourth schedule, in addition to former members Amjad Ali, Gul Zafar, Iftikhar Mashwani, Mian Sharifat Ali, Abdul Salam, Zaher Shah, Fazal Hakim, and others.
