After concluding his two-day visit to Pakistan, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres departed for the US while underlining the need for a worldwide response to the natural disaster that has struck the south Asian nation.

Murad Ali Shah, the chief minister of Sindh, saw him depart at the Karachi airport. The UN head visited on the 9th and 10th of this month to express support for the Pakistani people who are enduring a massive natural disaster brought on by enormous rainfall and floods across the nation.

During his visit, he urged the international community to provide significant, ongoing help and solidarity in order to meet the immense difficulties brought on by Pakistan’s historic floods caused by climate change.

In addition to high-level meetings, briefings, and interactions with displaced people, UN country representatives, civil society, and the media, he also paid visits to Sindh and Balochistan flood-affected areas where he was given an overview of the rescue and relief efforts of the Government of Pakistan and national and international partners. He was accompanied by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as he went to the flood-affected districts.

While thanking UN Secretary-General Guterres for his assistance to the flood victims in Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his great admiration for both his leadership and empathy.

PM Shehbaz thanked UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in a tweet on Sunday for his “extraordinary help” to flood victims. His two-day visit has been essential in spreading awareness of the catastrophe that has befallen people. His leadership and empathetic nature impacted me deeply. To overcome this obstacle, Pakistan needs assistance from the world.

The extent of the destruction that has enveloped Pakistan left the UN Secretary-General speechless on his tour of the camps and flood-affected areas in the sweltering heat. His voice has come to represent those affected by floods. He spoke about climate change, and the world should take note.
