The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) told the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to hold its own elections on Saturday. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was chosen as the new head of the party.
No one ran against the new party leader. It turned out that Barrister Gohar was the only candidate for chairman because no other leader filed papers for the position by the deadline.
Niaziullah Niazi, who is in charge of intra-party elections, announced the results from a voting place in Peshawar. He said that all of the candidates won by a majority vote within their own party.
New general secretary for the PTI was chosen to be Omar Ayub, and Ali Amin Gandapur was chosen as the party’s local president in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
Haleem Adil Sheikh was chosen as the president of PTI Sindh. Dr. Yasmin Rashid was chosen as the president of PTI Punjab, and Ali Asghar was chosen as the general secretary for the province.
Taimur Saleem Jhagra was chosen as the senior vice president of the PTI, and Atif Khan was chosen as the head of the Peshawar Region.
It was ruled “highly objectionable” by the ECP on November 23 that the PTI’s internal polls held in June of the previous year were invalid.
Earlier, the PTI publicly said that Imran Khan would not be running in the intra-party elections because of legal issues. As a temporary measure, Gohar was set to stand in his place.
The ECP told the PTI to hold intra-party elections within 20 days to keep the bat as the party’s symbol, which sped up their plans.
In an official statement, a PTI spokesperson praised Imran Khan’s work to promote democratic ideals within the party and emphasized the PTI’s ongoing efforts to hold fair elections within the party.
The spokesperson talked about how the polls last year were run legally.
The spokesperson for the PTI reaffirmed the party’s resolve to following the law by going ahead with the intra-party elections, even though pressure from the ECP was said to be illegal.
“The Minus-Imran formula will not work”
The PTI spokesman also said that people who want to keep PTI leader Imran Khan out of politics and the election process have “once again sent their touts and agents into the field against intra-party elections” through “conspiracy and oppression.”
He made it clear that he would not back down from moves to keep Imran out of politics. He said that these plots would fail just like the others and that the PTI would get where it wanted to go within the limits of the constitution, the law, and democratic principles.
Even though there were rumors of plots, the party reaffirmed its dedication to democracy and constitutional principles.
In his statement, the PTI spokesman emphasized the party’s dedication to promoting democracy and upholding the rule of law through the intra-party elections. He said this made the party different from the traditional political parties that have been in charge of the country’s politics for decades.
