Important items on the agenda include cutting wasteful spending by the government and its agencies, increasing national income, improving productivity, reworking the tax structure, and starting to stimulate exports right away.

The agenda also includes reforms to the judicial system, improvements to information technology, lower fuel and electricity prices, more job opportunities for women and youth, technological modernization of agriculture, and reorganization of financially troubled government institutions.

Following a judgment from the Supreme Court, former prime minister and party leader Nawaz Sharif was cleared of two corruption charges that had been leveled against him in 2017. The party is now seen as a favorite among the powerful due to this development.

In response to petitions brought out in the wake of the Panama Papers controversy, the Supreme Court permanently removed Nawaz Sharif from office in July 2017. Parliament, however, amended the Election Act, 2017 to cap disqualification at five years. If elected, Nawaz Sharif would become the prime minister of Pakistan for the fourth time.
