According to the foreign minister of Pakistan, Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, 700 citizens have fled their country for safety in Sudan, where protracted violence has left hundreds dead and prompted a mass outflow of foreigners.

In a statement, he stated, “Today, another convoy carrying 211 Pakistanis dispatched from Khartoum has arrived in Port Sudan.”

“With the most recent convoy, 700 Pakistanis have now been rescued to safety overall.”

He tweeted earlier this week that Pakistanis were being lodged close to the port before continuing their trek.

Around 1,500 Pakistanis, according to the ministry, were in Sudan, and their security and safety was being strictly watched.

On Tuesday, sporadic shooting broke out in the Sudanese capital Khartoum despite a US-mediated agreement between the warring parties to a 72-hour ceasefire to open the door for negotiations on a longer-term truce.

According to UN organizations, at least 427 people have died and more than 3,700 have been injured. Over 4,000 people have left the nation in evacuations that were organized by foreign governments and started on Saturday.
