The Pakistani national now in US detention, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, reunited with her sister, Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, after over 20 years, according to a report from Ok Pakistan on Wednesday.

In Fort Worth, Texas, at the Federal Medical Centre, Carswell, the sisters finally connected.

The meeting lasted for two and a half hours, with the two sisters separated by a glass barrier the entire time. Dr. Aafia Siddiqui told her sibling about the torture she received from US agents.

Dr. Fauzia told Dr. Aafia about her children, but the US government wouldn’t let her see photos of them.

In contrast to her now-adult daughter, Dr. Aafia’s son was only six months old at the time of her imprisonment.

The people working to secure Dr. Aafia’s release, including Senator Mushtaq and American lawyer Clive Smith, are scheduled to visit with her again today.

Dr. Aafia is currently receiving care in a federal medical prison in Texas, which has specialized medical and mental health facilities for its female inmates.

After being found guilty of attempted murder and other offenses by a federal court in New York in 2010, the Pakistani national is currently serving an 86-year sentence in the United States.

On May 8, the US Embassy told the Islamabad High Court that Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui had been given a visa to enter the country and visit her sister who is now being held in a US prison.

Additional Attorney General Munawar Iqbal Dogar informed the court of the change at a session in which Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release was being discussed.

The court has ordered the government to have Dr. Aafia Siddiqui undergo an independent psychiatric evaluation, to provide her attorney Clive Smith access to all relevant documents and information, and to prevent any improper use of the material obtained in the course of the case.
