LAHORE:
Law enforcement allegedly surrounded the Zaman Park home of former prime minister Imran Khan after the 24-hour deadline given to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) by the Punjab government to hand up approximately 30-40 people involved in the May 9 unrest expired.

Express News reports that all roads leading to Zaman Park have been closed and that there is a substantial police presence near the PTI chief’s home.

And the PTI workers’ camps outside Zaman Park have been cleared out.

According to reports, road restrictions have created severe transit issues for locals. The police also sealed off Dharampura Bridge and sent in a large number of officers.

It has reportedly been agreed to restrict the technique to a select group of police and that arrests will begin only after receiving consent from the Punjab administration.

The PTI’s official Twitter account encouraged media outlets to report on the “search operation order given by illegal caretaker government” as the deadline approached.

According to the Punjab Police, “terrorists” who attacked military posts on May 9 are currently hiding out at Zaman Park.

On May 9, after Imran Khan’s arrest, protesters set fire to and vandalized a number of public and private buildings. The home of the Corps Commander in Lahore and the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi were among those targets.

A provincial minister from Punjab stated the previous day that the government had requested the PTI hand up suspects engaged in the May 9 incident who were purportedly sheltering at Zaman Park.

Caretaker Information Minister Amir Mir warned at a press conference that the government would be compelled to take severe action if the PTI refused to give over the “terrorists in Zaman Park to the law-enforcement agencies.”

The former prime minister tweeted hours after the caretaker minister’s press conference that the police were surrounding his Zaman Park home and that this was “probably” his last tweet before his “possible arrest.”
