On Thursday, a special court in Islamabad granted bail to former federal minister Asad Umar before his arrest in the cypher case.

Advocate Shah Khawar, representing the Federal Investigation Agency, told the court that no evidence has been uncovered against Umar and that he is not even mentioned in the FIR.
The ex-general-secretary of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the lawyer said, “will see” if evidence is uncovered against him.
Umar was granted bail on a surety bond of Rs50,000 by Judge Abul Hasanat Zulfiqar of the special court established to hear cases under the Official Secrets Act.
Former prime minister and PTI leader Imran Khan is accused in the case, as is former foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The special court yesterday (Wednesday) prolonged Imran and Qureshi’s judicial remand until September 26, 2023.
At the following hearing, the FIA must provide the case challan.
