Approximately 10 kilometres from the Empress Bridge, local officials in Bahawalpur reported on Sunday that the Sutlej river flooded the Bahawalpur-Lahore National Highway in the Goth Shah Muhammad region of Khairpur Tamewali tehsil.

The Empress Bridge on the Sutlej River recorded a peak flow rate of roughly 144,000 cusec as the river crested at its highest flood level. An official with the district administration claimed that by late afternoon, the water level had dropped to below flood stage at both the Syphion Headworks in Mailsi and the Empress Bridge in Bahawalpur.

Khairpur Tamewali’s Goth Shah Muhammad and Goth Noor Muhammad, as well as the neighbourhoods nearby, were hit by the continuing floods. More than 200 small communities were wiped out and crops on thousands of acres were severely damaged due to this inundation, which covered an area of 16 to 18 kilometres.

As a result of the flooding, many people were forced to leave their houses in Khairpur Tamewali, Israni, Lal Suhanra, Ghot Shah Muhammad, Goth Noor Muhammad, and other localities. The tehsils of Saddar and Ahmadpur East in Bahawalpur district were also severely affected by the flooding.

The Sutlej River is currently at a low flood level, according to sources from the Flood Forecast Division, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and the Punjab Emergency Service Department (Rescue 1122). They confirmed that there was no longer an imminent threat of a catastrophic flood on the Sutlej River.
