Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, a former foreign minister and the chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), has increased his criticism of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), accusing them of relying on support from outside sources to attain power.

During a rally that took place on Thursday in Gujrat, Punjab, Bilawal addressed the party workers and suggested that the PML-N, which is represented by the electoral emblem of a lion, is hesitant to take the initiative and is relying on others for political success.

To emphasise his perspective on the opposition party’s strategy for the next general elections that are due to take place on February 8, Bilawal made the following remark: “There is a reason Sher [PML-N election symbol] is not going on a hunt and relying on others to hunt for him.”

Bilawal asserted that the PPP was the only party actively involved in electioneering, in contrast to other parties, which were supposedly delegating the task to other forces.

When Bilawal condemned a party, he did not specifically name the PML-N. He criticised the party for not openly presenting its plan and for seeking votes without having a clear agenda.

A party that does not have a manifesto is not a democratic party. What type of democracy is this? Bilawal made the statement that those who want to make their nominee the prime minister for the fourth time are claiming that they do not have a manifesto.

In addition to highlighting the 10-point agenda of the PPP, Bilawal provided an overview of the party’s commitment to reducing poverty, unemployment, and inflation throughout the nation. Through the provision of interest-free loans for business starts and initiatives to give free energy, housing, and regularisation of slum areas, he asked the general public to vote for the PPP. He also highlighted the ambitions to empower women through these programmes.

Bilawal also announced the development of a labour card, which will ensure that children of labourers have access to free education and healthcare, as well as a farmers’ card, which will protect the products that farmers grow.

As the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) emerge as the two major contenders for the prime ministerial slot, Bilawal has positioned himself as the PPP’s candidate for the top slot, challenging Nawaz Sharif, the supremo of the PML-N. This comes after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was excluded from the race due to the Supreme Court’s verdict on its ‘bat’ symbol.
