At a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken reportedly called for a “tone down” in Al Jazeera’s coverage of the conflict in Gaza.

Axios quoted three attendees from Monday’s meeting with American Jewish community leaders where Blinken reportedly made his request.

“Blinken told American Jewish leaders on Monday that when he was in Doha on Oct. 13 he asked the Qatari government to change its public posture towards Hamas,” according to reports.

According to the story, one insider claims that Blinken requested the Qataris to “turn down the volume on Al Jazeera’s coverage because it is full of anti-Israel incitement.”

Blinken was stated to have “appeared to be talking about Al Jazeera Arabic, not Al Jazeera English.”

The State Department has not responded to Anadolu’s request for confirmation of the information.

The Foreign Ministry of Qatar has not yet responded to the news.

Wael al-Dahdouh, an Arabic correspondent for Al Jazeera based in Doha, reported Wednesday that his wife and two children had been killed in an Israeli bombing in the Gaza Strip just after the Axios article had been published.
