At Rajanpur’s NA-193 by-elections, voting is already complete at 237 polling places, 69 of which have been designated as sensitive.

RAJANPUR: On Sunday, voting took place in the NA-193 district of Rajanpur.

Upon the passing of Sardar Mohammad Jaffar Khan Leghari, a member of the National Assembly for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the position became vacant.

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), voting took place from 8 am till 5 pm without a break, with 379,204 people exercising their right to vote.

There were 237 polling locations set up in the district, 169 of which were deemed “B grade,” and 69 of which were deemed “sensitive.”

Ammar Awais Leghari of the PML-N, Mohsin Leghari of the PTI, Akhtar Hasan Gorchani of the PPP, and Muhammad Mehmood of the TLP are the candidates running in the by-election.

Strict security measures were put in place, and more than 2,500 police officers were present, according to a police spokesman.

According to a police spokesman, strict security arrangements were made and more than 2,500 policemen and officers performed their duty while soldiers of the Pakistan Army and Rangers were present to help the police. Moreover, there was a complete ban on carrying mobile phones inside the polling station.

Earlier this month, the army had declined troops for election duty after the ECP had requested for soldiers for security and judicial officers for conducting voting in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). “Given limited deployment needs, Pakistan Rangers Punjab troops can be provided in 2nd Tier (QRF mode) for the conduct of National Assembly by-election in Rajanpur on February 26,” the General Headquarters (GHQ) had said in a letter addressed to the interior secretary.
