PESHAWAR: Citing the existing state of law and order, the Provincial Justice Committee (PJC) has postponed the transfer of new courts to North and South Waziristan.

But, in light of the law and order situation there, instructions have been issued to tighten security at the Peshawar University as well as at the North Waziristan court that is currently in place.

In this regard, a meeting of the 10th PJC was presided over by Chief Justice Qaisar Rashid Khan of the Peshawar High Court (PHC).

Amir Javid, the advocate general for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), Inspector General of Police (IGP) Akhtar Hayat Khan, the additional chief secretary, the IG for prisons, the joint secretary for the law and justice commission of Pakistan, and other officers took part.

The chief justice expressed his delight and instructed the pertinent departments to carry out additional choices after reviewing the implementation of the decisions reached in the previous meetings.

The committee urged that a cutting-edge forensic lab be established both in Peshawar and at the regional level in order to conduct a scientific investigation into the instances.

The committee responsible for the forensic lab’s establishment was notified that land had been located in Hayatabad and that work had already begun to secure its acquisition.

The meeting’s attendees were informed that the PHC and the police database had been connected.

The IGP advised the committee members that the attempt to transfer the courts in the recently combined districts of North and South Waziristan would not be practicable at this time due to the poor security situation in the two districts.

He declared that the current court in North Waziristan would receive security.

Similar to this, the registrar stated that a location was being found for the move of the judicial magistrate to South Waziristan and that it would be doable given the improvement in security conditions.

During the meeting, the prosecution was instructed to call police witnesses in the cases of convicts who were being tried in court right away, with a warning that any delays would not be permitted.

The vice chairman of the K-P Bar Council was also instructed to work with the bar members to give sub-trial detainees’ cases priority.

In order for the district and sessions judges involved to take appropriate action, the AIG investigation and DG prosecution will hold regular meetings in this respect to examine the state of case disposition.

The rate of resolution of cases involving convicts who are on trial will also be assessed at the upcoming PJC conference.

The chief justice brought up the subject of law and order at Peshawar University during the meeting and suggested that security measures be improved as well as the creation of a cooperative action plan with the university administration.

According to him, the police should give the security guards stationed at the institution sufficient training so as to avoid any unfortunate incidents since they are amateurs.
