LAHORE: On Wednesday, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz asked the legal community to settle their disputes with the LHC amicably and instructed the IG police to refrain from using force against attorneys who were demonstrating.

Earlier today, during a demonstration organized by the legal community, police in Lahore deployed tear gas and baton charges against attorneys.

Anti-riot force teams and a sizable police presence were stationed outside the Lahore High Court (LHC) on GPO Chowk Mall Road.

Fighting broke out between members of the legal community and law enforcement as the attorneys attempted to access the high court premises.

In an effort to scatter the lawyers who were protesting, police turned to utilizing water cannons and tear gas. Eight people were detained at least.

After intense shelling, the attorneys left the area. According to Express News, the attorneys attempted to enter the courtroom after demanding that their general house session be held on the LHC grounds.

As the lawyers threw stones, SHO Ichhra, Inspector Akhtar Ali, Constable Subhan Ali, and numerous other police officers were hurt, according to Lahore police.

The injured officers were receiving treatment at Gangaram Hospital, according to a police spokesperson.

“Officers care less about their own lives,” the DIG operations stated, directing the provision of the greatest medical facilities and treatment to the injured.

He pledged to uphold law and order and guarantee the security of citizens’ personal belongings.
