The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) caretaker government has opened an investigation into charges of corruption and inappropriate distribution of wheelchairs and sewing machines to important individuals in the Khyber district, according to a report from PESHAWAR.
The local officer in charge of social services has been asked to comment on these allegations.
In addition, a three-year performance report from the Directorate of Merged Districts and the Frontier Region is due soon.
The Directorate of Social Welfare for the combined districts has been given stringent orders by Salma Begum, the special assistant to the chief minister for zakat and ushr, social welfare, special education, and development of women.
She stressed the importance of moving social activities in the newly combined tribal areas together with actual aid to the beneficiaries.
Salma called for an emergency meeting of the Directorate of Social Welfare and Districts to tackle the ongoing problems.
A three-year performance report for both tribal districts and frontier areas was sought from the Directorate of Merged Districts after the special assistant voiced her discontent with the department’s work in merged districts.
She stressed the need for improvement, saying that the Social Welfare Directorate’s performance in the merged districts is unacceptable compared to the intended districts.
In addition, she proposed that, in the future, the social assistance department’s records of all beneficiaries be digitised to increase its efficiency. This would ensure that the rights of a greater number of beneficiaries are maintained and would increase the number of people who may receive assistance from the department.
Salma reaffirmed that the social welfare division’s primary focus is on assisting the poor, the needy, widows, and the disabled. She pushed for all officers to work diligently to accomplish the department’s goals.
