MNA Mohsin Dawar believes that Gulalai Ismail’s family has been harassed for ‘far too long.’ Gulalai Ismail’s parents were acquitted in the sedition and terror case.

PESHAWAR: In a case involving sedition, conspiracy against the government, terrorism, and funding for terrorism, Professor M. Ismail and his spouse were found not guilty by a Peshawar anti-terror court. They are the parents of Gulalai Ismail.

On Wednesday, Ismail made the court’s verdict public via his Twitter account.

Pro-Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement (PTM) activist Gulalai Ismail said that “Peshawar anti-terrorist court acquitted my parents in the phoney and malafide case of sedition, terrorism, and conspiracy against the state after more than three years of harassment and many court appearances.”

She also expressed her gratitude to everyone who supported the family during the “tough moment.”

Mohsin Dawar, an MNA, congratulated the Gulalai family and said they had endured harassment and persecution “for far too long.”

He continued, “Their resolve is unwavering.”

Gulalai and her family were charged by the Counter-Terrorism Department in a first information report (FIR) filed in July 2019. The ATC declined to charge Gulalai and her parents in 2021 because there wasn’t enough evidence to support a conviction.

It contended that the accused were exonerated because the prosecution failed to present any evidence, making it impossible to establish a case against them.

Later, the CTD submitted the entire sheet and supplied additional papers, alleging that the Ismails had helped the terrorists who attacked the Imamia Masjid in Hayatabad in 2015 and the All Saints Church in Peshawar in 2013.

The court then charged Gulalai’s parents with sedition, inciting war against the state, and aiding terrorist activities in 2020. They were later put on trial after entering a not guilty plea.

The father of a political activist was detained in October 2019, according to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), for inciting hatred of the government on social media. When Professor Muhammad Ismail left a Peshawar court, he was taken into custody.

The government’s vocal critic Gulalai fled the country in 2019 after a complaint was filed against her for allegedly slandering state institutions and inciting violence after a speech at a protest against the mistreatment and murder of a young child. In September, she made her debut in America.
