Former prime minister ‘unaware’ of attack on Jinnah House; surprised by the detention of PTI leaders

Earlier this week, Imran Khan, leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was detained in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case by Rangers men. On Friday in ISLAMABAD, Khan alleged that he had been struck in the head with batons during his detention.

The former prime minister allegedly exhibited swelling and cuts on the back of his head during a conversation with media persons in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), alleging that he was hit during his arrest. He went on to say that the NAB personnel who had found the damage had attended to it.

As per the Supreme Court’s directive, the PTI chairman is currently present at IHC to have his bail hearing in the Al-Qadir Trust case.

Following the highest court’s orders for the PTI chief’s immediate release, Imran spoke to reporters inside the courtroom, telling them he had “full confidence” in Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial.

He thought the way NAB handled his arrest was “alright” and said he was slapped in the head with a baton again.

Imran was asked about the violent protests that broke out after his detention on May 9 and stated he didn’t know how to stop them and that he’d warned there would be a “reaction” if he was taken into custody.

You may find yourself asking, “How can I be held responsible, when I was in [NAB’s] custody?” he inquired, adding that he’d told the SC that things “did not go well” during the demonstrations.

When the Rangers arrested me, I told them, ‘This is my country; these are my people,'” Imran insisted. Keep the peace.

The former prime minister has stated that he will “not resist arrest” despite having made bail pleas in dozens of charges against him.

Imran had also expressed surprise at the arrests of other PTI leaders that had followed the highest court’s order the day before.

He questioned the media on the detention of PTI Secretary General Asad Umar. Both Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Fawad Chaudhry’s incarceration came as a shock to him.

“If I was told earlier, I would have spoken about this in front of the court,” he said.

According to Imran’s legal representation, 21 individuals had been verified deceased from the violent protests, while there was intelligence of 40 deaths.

According to reports, this news infuriated the PTI leader, who demanded to know why he had not been notified sooner. He insisted, “All these things need to be told to the court.”

Attack on Jinnah House: Imran “unaware”

Imran claimed ignorance when asked whether or not he condemned the attack on the home of the Corps Commander in Lahore.

When asked if he would resume negotiations with the incumbent administration after receiving orders from the top justice, he questioned how he could do so given that the government “does not talk about the Constitution.”

We seek elections, and they avoid them at all costs. Within 90 days, elections must be held per the Constitution. He then said, “We will see [if negotiations are possible] after the Constitution is restored.”

When a reporter inquired as to whether or not the deposed prime minister had any visitors while in custody, Imran said that he had only spoken with his counsel, Khawaja Haris. Former Prime Minister Haris was lauded for his “strong arguments” before the NAB court.

Imran responded to an inquiry from an international journalist by insisting that his words were “not allegations but facts,” and suggesting that his arrest was related to accusations he made against a serving military official for organising the murder attempt on him.

He explained, “When I left Lahore, I had a suspicion that they would arrest me, which is why I released the video statement,” alluding to the video he had posted online just before his detention.

PTI head was “now in the custody of the Islamabad police,” NAB officers told him during the conversation. Imran responded with a grin and the wish that he would not run across them again.

In the Al-Qadir Trust case, Imran Khan was present at two hearings at the Islamabad High Court (IHC) before he was taken into custody there. On Thursday, however, the Supreme Court ruled that his detention was “unlawful” and issued an order for his immediate release.
