HYDERABAD: The price of milk has been unexpectedly raised by Rs20 per litre.
Nasir Ghori, general secretary of the Milk Retailers and Vendors Welfare Association in Hyderabad, has verified the price hike and stated that the new price of milk will be Rs200 beginning on Tuesday or Wednesday.
The proprietors of dairy farms claim that the high cost of feed has forced them to raise the price of milk.
Milk distributors argue that they have to charge a greater price for their product because they must pay more to dairy farms. Yoghurt costs could soon hit Rs300 per kilogramme.
Hyderabad residents could only dream of paying the deputy commissioner’s announced price of Rs160 per litre for milk. The current price of Rs180 per litre is being replaced with a final price of Rs200 for this necessity.
According to Shaukat Jatoi, president of the Hyderabad Dairy Farmers Association, prices for cattle feed have increased from around Rs2,800 to around Rs2,900 per 40 kilogrammes before Ramadan to around Rs4,500 per 40 kilogrammes now.
The price of a milch buffalo, which was once priced at Rs100,000, is now Rs400,000.
