On Monday, Inzamamul Haq, the chief selector for Pakistan, submitted his resignation to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).On August 7, 2023, he was named chairman of the national men’s selection committee, and earlier this month, he was given responsibility for selecting the junior men’s team.It has come to light that Inzamam, along with other players including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi, are represented by agent Talha Rehmani, who owns a company in the United Kingdom.

The possibility of a conflict of interest was brought up, and the PCB was planning to ask Inzamam for clarity.

The news was confirmed by Inzamam, who remarked, “People speak without research. There were suspicions cast my way, so I thought it would be best to leave.

I am open for questioning by the PCB if they so choose. Without any concrete evidence, people are spreading rumors about me. Please bring any that may be available. I’ve requested this action from the PCB. I am not affiliated in any way with that player agency. Such charges wound me deeply.

The former skipper of the Pakistani cricket team also discussed the investigation committee established by the PCB.

A five-person committee has been formed, I was informed in a phone conversation; thus, I informed the board that I should retire while the investigation is ongoing.

“When everything is back to normal [and the air has been cleared], I will sit down with the PCB again,” stated Inzamam. I am resigning to give the PCB the chance to investigate the media reports of a conflict of interest in an open and honest manner. Should the committee exonerate me, I intend to return to my position as head selector.

The PCB released a statement expressing its gratitude to Inzamam for his voluntary resignation until the outcome of the investigation into the potential conflict of interest charges.

Earlier, Inzamam met with PCB’s Management Committee Chairman Zaka Ashraf for an hour at the PCB’s headquarters. Ashraf informed Inzamam about the establishment of a fact-finding commission to look into the incident.

Inzamam gave immediate notice of his resignation.

The committee’s findings and any associated suggestions will be promptly delivered to the PCB’s upper ranks.
