Attorneys will not appear in court tomorrow.
Law profession protests against PHC judge’s lack of promotion to SC.

PESHAWAR: The K-P Bar Council stated on Monday that attorneys would not show up in court on Wednesday (tomorrow) to protest the non-elevation of justices from the Peshawar High Court (PHC) to the Supreme Court.
The bar council stated in a news statement that the Supreme Court has a lot of vacancies, and that these vacancies should be filled by elevating judges from PHC.
The press release stated that because Pakistan is a federation, the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which serves as the Federation’s highest court of constitutional law, “must have a proper representation of all the federating units.”
The bar council stated that no judges from the K-P had been promoted to the Supreme Court since 2017.
It asked the Judicial Commission to address the problem right away and alleviate the province’s sense of deprivation.
It further stated that a proper representation of the people of K-P was required in the Supreme Court to resolve any constitutional and legal issues that might arise between the Centre and the federating units or among the various federating units.
The K-P bar stated that it will soon organise an all Pakistan attorneys conference on this topic in addition to the bar’s plans for a boycott of all court sessions across the province on March 1 (tomorrow).
In Peshawar earlier this month, there was a protest march against the lawyers’ assault on the police lines.
