Appeals brought against Maryam and others for scandalizing the judiciary have been rejected by the LHC.
Objecting to statements made by Maryam at a workers’ convention in Sargodha, this petition has been submitted.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) dismissed a number of petitions on Monday as unmaintainable, including one against PML-N senior vice president Maryam Nawaz for insulting judges on superior courts and defaming the legal system.
After hearing the petitioner’s attorney’s arguments, Justice Shujaat Ali Khan reserved judgement before announcing that the claims made against Maryam, Azam Nazir Tarar, and others are rejected.
The petitioners’ attorney, Rana Muhammad Shahid, was unable to convince the court that the arguments were valid or that “a lawsuit containing contemptuous remarks against superior court’s judges could be heard in Lahore High Court” could be considered there.
The attorney told the court during the hearing that Maryam was accused of making the disparaging statements six times in a speech she gave at the party’s worker convention in Sargodha.
He asserted that Maryam gave her address on February 23, 2023, which was shown on the majority of Pakistani television stations, and he listed the six instances in which the PML-N senior vice president made the derogatory remarks.
Additionally, the attorneys argued in the petition that Maryam committed crimes of contempt and scandalised the superior court in front of the entire nation.
He asked that legal action “be taken against her to bring her to book in line with law” and that the PML-N leader be called before the court.
In previous petitions, he complained to the court that scandalising the judges had damaged the reputation of the courts.
