A new mega water infrastructure costing Rs600 million has been sanctioned under the Urban Development Project in Rawalpindi to serve the city’s four most populous local union councils.

Sources say that UCs 75, 76, 77, and 78, as well as Chaklala, Shah Faisal Colony, Dhok Hafiz, Dhok Munshi, Shah Khalid Colony, and other neighboring regions, will benefit from this new mega water delivery network.
New tube wells would be dug in the green belt next to the Islamabad Expressway, according to the sources, and water will be piped to the UCs and colonies there.
They further claimed that the proposal will permanently solve the water shortage problem by laying large water pipelines from the tube wells to these locations.
Sources estimate that there is a sizable population (300,000) that does not have access to safe drinking water. Six to nine months is how long they estimated the project would take to finish.
However, the Rawalpindi Municipal Corporation’s plan to build a 50,000-gallon water tank in UCs 35, 34, and 41 has been put on hold.
The total estimated cost of the project was Rs80 million. However, until the New Year, approval of this project has been delayed due to a shortage of funding.
