Shehbaz believes the coalition government’s first year reflects a successful tale of overcoming difficult circumstances. The Prime Minister highlights reconciliation as a feature of the PDM government.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the government’s efforts on Tuesday, saying they “mostly achieved” in their goals by pursuing “reconciliation and cooperation” rather than “confrontation and vendetta” during his first year in office.

Shehbaz reflected on the advancements and accomplishments of his government in a series of tweets to celebrate a year since he took the oath of office as prime minister after Imran Khan was removed from office by a resolution of no confidence in April of last year.

“Today marks the one-year anniversary of my swearing-in as the prime minister of a coalition government. Massive obstacles and problems have existed during this time. It was a difficult trip, but persistent work allowed it to be accomplished,” he wrote in one of his tweets.

I can tell folks that we have mostly succeeded in strengthening Pakistan’s credibility as a partner and friend during the past year, he tweeted. “Every forecast of a default turned out to be unfounded. Sincere initiatives are being taken to boost the economy, he noted.

Shehbaz assumed the oath of office on April 11 of last year after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) administration was ousted by the National Assembly following a motion of no confidence introduced by the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) in the early hours of April 10.

Shehbaz recalled that the no-confidence vote against Imran’s government was successful, which was rare since it united political forces “to use the platform of parliament to vote out an unpopular govt” by using legal procedures.

He praised the political parties’ alignment around a shared national goal, calling it a “great stride forward” in the political development of the nation. “The new politics post-April ’22 were distinguished by reconciliation and cooperation rather than conflict and vengeance.”

He asserted that Pakistan’s economy managed to survive despite the economic landmines planted by Imran and the interruptions to the world’s fuel and food supply chains. The “Nazi rule,” he said, did a serious setback to Pakistan’s diplomatic relations, which the administration patiently rehabilitated, rebuilt, and deepened.

He also emphasised the government’s efforts in rescue, relief, and reconstruction after the nation experienced unheard-of floods the previous year.

He said that the coalition administration had worked to diversify the energy mix over the past year in an effort to relieve the residents’ suffering.

Shehbaz said that some of the major causes of inflation were geostrategic rivalries, an increase in the cost of food and fuel, and historic floods.

The government has broadened the social safety net and offered targeted subsidies, he continued, “mindful of its impact.”

Because to great interministerial collaboration and backing from the military leadership, Pakistan under the PDM administration was able to remove itself off the Financial Action Task Force’s “grey list,” the prime minister said.
