RAWALPINDI: According to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, the nationwide general elections should take place on the same day because that day is very popular.

Speaking to the party workers’ convention on Sunday, the interior minister declared that “the PML-N is completely prepared for the elections.”

They were unafraid of the elections, he continued.

Hours before to Sanaullah’s comments, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) excused itself from speaking with President Arif Alvi about the elections in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa because the matter was already being reviewed by the judiciary.

The top election commissioner was asked by the president on Friday for a “urgent meeting” on Monday (today) to discuss the election’s timing, chastising him for the ECP’s “poignant approach.”

The president was also criticised on Saturday by the interior minister, who urged him to respect his constitutional authority because he had nothing to do with the election’s schedule.

Sanaullah retaliated against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan by claiming that the government’s retaliation will be “far beyond his comprehension” in response to his “Jail Bharo Tehreek”.

Imran’s objective, according to the interior minister, was to lead the nation towards instability and disorder.

The interior minister poked fun at the PTI leader, who had been residing at his Zaman Park mansion in Lahore, by saying that Imran “started the court arrest campaign but on the other hand he hid in a bunker.”

Political workers wouldn’t be held in jails, he declared. Only those who sought to bring about chaos and instability in the nation would be locked up.

The federal minister also stated that the ousted prime minister, who was overthrown by a no-confidence vote in April of last year, intended to destabilise the nation.

He vowed to deny Imran any additional chances to wreak more havoc and disorder throughout the nation.

The interior minister claimed that only members of the “Imrani Gang” who were damaging the nation would be imprisoned in reference to the “Jail Bharo Tehreek”.

Sanaullah pointed his gun once more towards Alvi and said that he did so in order to prevent the government from reaching an agreement with the IMF by refusing to ratify the “mini-budget” ordinance (IMF).

In order to meet the requirements for releasing the $1.1 billion IMF loan tranche, the coalition administration on February 15 introduced the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2023, also known as the mini-budget, in the National Assembly and Senate.

The PDM-led government hopes to raise Rs55 billion through the mini-budget out of the total of Rs170 billion in order to satisfy the IMF’s requirements.
