According to Express News, the Pakistani Senate passed a resolution Monday night to punish severely anybody who spreads false information about the Pakistani Army and other security agencies.

Several bills were put on hold during the Senate session, which was presided by Sadiq Sanjrani. A resolution that called for the government to punish individuals who spread malicious propaganda against the military and other security agencies severely by the law was sponsored by Senator Bahramand Khan Tangi of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and was unanimously approved.

“In light of the immense sacrifices made by our nation’s security services in the fight against terrorism and to safeguard our borders, Recognising that a robust military and other forms of national security are critical to protecting the nation, particularly in light of the dangerous environment in which it lies; The resolution’s text expressed the Senate of Pakistan’s deep concern over the spread of malicious propaganda against Pakistan’s armed forces and other security agencies on social media. The Senate urged the government to take appropriate action and impose severe punishment by the law.

Military personnel and government agencies have given their lives in vain to combat terrorism and ensure the safety of our nation’s borders, as stated in the resolution.

Those who spread harmful information about the military and security forces were urged to face severe punishment.

When confronted with enemies in the neighborhood, the resolution stressed the importance of robust security forces and militaries. It voiced its disapproval of hurtful comments made about the Pakistan Army on social media and demanded that the government punish individuals responsible for such comments severely.

At the same time, Samina Mumtaz Zehri, a senator from the BAP, introduced a new resolution calling on the government to address the needs of students from various cultural backgrounds and to teach college students about the dangers of drug use.

In addition, it was mandated that all colleges establish a system to track compliance with the “Policy on Drug and Tobacco Abuse in Higher Education Institutions 2021” (the “Policy”).

Senator Seemee Ezdi of the PTI did not have her motion to have the government set aside enough money for adaptation to climate change and to prioritize climate change projects in the development budget considered since no MPs were present.
