Tuesday saw widespread troubles with the popular messaging service WhatsApp, with users in Asia, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Europe reporting problems sending and receiving texts and videos.

However, several users have claimed that WhatsApp services have resumed, thus the outage appears to be decreasing.

Over 68,000 users in the UK reported issues with the app to outage monitoring service Downdetector as of 7:50 GMT. According to the report, 19,000 Singaporeans and 15,000 South Africans both reported problems.

The software has evolved into a vital tool for communication in both homes and workplaces. Trading of assets, including cryptocurrency and oil, was affected by Whatsapp’s hours-long outage in October, before traders migrated to alternate platforms like Telegram.

The most recent outage of the app occurred during the holiday season in India, which is also its largest user base. During this time, more individuals than usual utilise the platform to offer holiday pleasantries.

By combining status information from many sources, including user-submitted problems on its platform, Downdetector keeps track of outages. There’s a chance that more customers were impacted by the outage.

A representative for WhatsApp parent firm Meta Platforms stated on Tuesday, “We’re aware that some users are now having problems sending messages, and we’re trying to restore WhatsApp for everyone as quickly as possible.”

The outage, which affected several of Meta’s services, including Instagram and WhatsApp, caused its stock price to drop more than 5% in October of last year.

According to the most recent information from DownDetector, there have been close to 124,000 reported outages on Facebook, close to 97,000 on Instagram, and close to 33,000 on WhatsApp.
