On Wednesday in ISLAMABAD, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir told the troops that those guilty for the disgraceful events of May 9 will be held accountable.

ISPR reports that General Syed Asim paid a visit to the Sialkot Garrison. At the Martyrs’ Monument, he paid a heartfelt homage by laying a wreath in honor of the brave men and women who died defending the honor of their country.

When speaking with officers and soldiers, Gen. Asim emphasized the importance of keeping the army’s professionalism and readiness to face complex internal and external security problems, including propaganda warfare, at the forefront of all discussions.

He admired them for their professionalism, dedication, and excellent morale.

No one will be allowed to desecrate the memorials we have erected for our Shuhada [martyrs]. He went on to say that the members of Pakistan’s military forces, police, government, and citizens take great pleasure in them.

The army commander further stated that the martyrs will be accorded the highest habitation in the afterlife and would continue to be held in the highest esteem by the people of Pakistan.

The Shuhada and their families will be held in the highest regard by the state of Pakistan and the military forces, who will continue to pay tribute to them and their ultimate sacrifice with the utmost respect and dignity.

His point was that the recent “planned and orchestrated tragic incidents” would not be tolerated under any circumstances. Those who “brought shame to the nation on the black day of May 9 will certainly be brought to justice,” he told the troops.

Hours after the arrest of PTI leader Imran Khan on May 9, supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged an unprecedented vandalism campaign, attacking and damaging government buildings, including military sites.

General Asim had previously warned that restraint would no longer be exercised in the event of attacks on any military installations while chairing a Special Corps Commanders Conference at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Monday.

The ISPR reports that the forum recently took a full accounting of the law and order situation and was briefed on the current internal and external security environment.

The ISPR claimed in its statement to the forum that a well-coordinated arson plan had been carried out to discredit the institution and force it into an impulsive reaction. This plan entailed the destruction of Shuhada portraits and monuments, the burning down of historical buildings, and the vandalism of military sites.

“Based on the irrefutable evidence collected so far, Armed Forces are well aware of the planners, instigators, abettors, and perpetrators of these attacks, and attempts to create distortions in this regard are absolutely futile,” it continued.

The meeting decided that trials under the Pakistan Army Act and the Official Secrets Act would be held for individuals responsible for the attacks on military sites and personnel.

The forum also decided that “restraint will no longer be exercised against perpetrators, spoilers, and violators who attack military installations and setups under any circumstances,” as reported by the ISPR statement.

Participants paid a heartfelt homage to the Shuhada, who gave their life protecting their country from the threat of terrorism. The forum’s participants expressed their gratitude for the country’s effective counter-terrorism and intelligence-based operations.
