KARACHI: According to MQM-P Convener Dr. Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has won a protracted legal struggle against its founder, Altaf Hussain, over the ownership of £10 million worth of properties in London.

Siddiqui welcomed a decision by the London High Court as a triumph for the party while speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters with senior party officials Dr. Farooq Sattar, Mustafa Kamal, and Nasreen Jalil.

According to media sources, the Insolvency and Companies Court (ICC), the high court’s property division, determined that the MQM-P and its members were the trusts’ legitimate beneficiaries and had the authority to govern the assets.

The MQM founder has up to now maintained ownership of the properties, which are estimated to be worth Rs3.4 billion. After his speech in August 2016, the court determined that Altaf had left the party and was no longer a beneficiary.

According to the party head, the MQM-P currently owns all six of its properties after one of them was sold. The relatives of martyrs, missing workers, and inmates will utilise these properties, Siddiqui continued.

Siddiqui said that Lawyer Nazar Muhammad, MQM-P attorney, informed the MQM-Pakistan of the verdict’s specifics over the phone from London and expressed his congratulations on the case’s victory.

He said that the MQM-Pakistan is the genuine MQM and that there are no branches or factions. “These holdings belong to the people… This money will be used to help martyr families and workers who have gone missing or were arrested.

“We shall neither utilise this money for personal nor for political purposes,” the top leadership of the MQM-P, he claimed, had decided collectively. He also said that the family of Dr. Imran Farooq, a martyr, will receive a portion of it.
