KARACHI — On Wednesday, the brother and nephew of Sindh MPA Muhammad Aslam Abro were shot and killed by motorcycles in Defence Phase VII, close to the Ayesha Mosque, leaving two others critically hurt.

Aslam Abro’s brother Akram Abro and nephew Shahryar Abro were killed, and Abdullah Abro and Arshad Panhwar were injured, according to SSP South Asad Raza.

Five people were in the car, and the police officer said they were on their way home from their location in Khayaban-e-Shamsheer when they were followed and attacked.

Police Chief Javed Alam Odho told reporters that while the attack was “not an incident of terrorism,” the motive behind it remained unknown.

He did add that the inquiry was ongoing and that more information would be forthcoming, though.

But, he insisted, “the victims were definitely targeted,” adding that the attack took place in an area without surveillance cameras.

According to SP Investigation South Abraiz Ali Abbasi, who addressed the media at the scene, “large weapons and 9mm shells” were also found. Two firearms were utilised in the assault, a.222 rifle and a 9mm handgun.

According to him, “the attackers were travelling on more than one motorbike,” with additional details to be revealed once the inquiry is complete.

Akram Abro and Shehryar Abro’s gruesome murder was described as a “act of terrorism” by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party and foreign minister.
