A suicide bomber exploded inside a mosque in the Hangu area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, killing at least five people and injuring 12. One of the dead was a police officer.
Two suicide bombers attacked a mosque inside the Doaba Police Lines, according to DPO Nisar Ahmed. One was shot dead at the mosque’s entrance by police, while the other made it inside and detonated his explosives there.
The official from the police department also mentioned that the two attackers entered in a private vehicle and fought with the police officers who were on guard duty. Two police officers were hurt during the gun battle.
After a gunfight broke out between the deployed officers and the attackers, the DPO elaborated that “timely action” by security forces averted a worse tragedy.
Officials from Rescue 1122 claimed they transported six people with significant injuries to local hospitals. The explosion’s impact forced the mosque’s roof to collapse, so authorities called for heavy gear to aid in rescue efforts.
SHO Shabraz claims that the incident occurred while worshippers were gathered inside the mosque for Friday prayers. He had previously estimated that there were between 30 and 40 devotees there.
Security and rescue workers made it to the scene of the incident and set up a perimeter. There were a total of eight ambulances sent to the area, with six coming from Rescue 1122 and two from Kohat.
Azam Khan, the interim chief minister of KP, requested a police report on the event. The rescue operation was to be supervised by authorities, and the injured were to be given the greatest care possible, according to his orders.
Azam also declared a state of emergency in all of Hangu’s medical facilities.
At least 50 people were killed and 100 were injured in a bombing at an Eid Miladun Nabi parade in Balochistan’s Mastung region earlier today, making this the second bombing in the country today.
