Rashid Latif is pleased with the appointment of Hassan Cheema and emphasizes his understanding of the significance of involving the captain, Babar Azam, in making better use of statistics.

Rashid Latif, a former cricketer for Pakistan, has said that in his perspective, two of the world’s most well-known cricketers do not base their strategic judgments on evidence.

Latif thinks that in addition to being good with numbers, captains need traits like perseverance and dedication.

“There are two biggest captains in world cricket, and I can confidently say that they don’t believe in data,” Latif said on his YouTube channel, referring to Babar Azam and Virat Kohli.

Hassan Cheema has been named by PCB to serve as the national men’s team’s manager of analytics and strategy in addition to his role as selection committee secretary. Latif approves of his appointment but thinks Cheema would benefit from having the captain on board if he were to make greater use of the information at his disposal.

Whether at Islamabad United or another [franchise], Hassan Cheema has handled statistics. This is the first stage,” Latif said, “because now he has to convince the captain about the usage of statistics and then see how he would convey the data to players and how he will utilize it in the match.

Latif also stressed the significance of adopting domestic cricket statistics.

“Things can improve further making use of data in domestic cricket,” he said.
